The Giving's Second Care Package Assembly

On February 5th, 2023, The Giving hosted its 2nd care package assembly! Using hundreds of items donated by White Tiger Taekwondo, Jersey Village High School Key Club, and a thousand more items from the money raised from #bake4homeless, we created 405 care packages. These packages are to be later distributed in March, April, May, and June of 2023 to various homeless communities in the Houston Metropolitan Area. Thank you to all of our community members that came out to help!

9 month growth:

Reflecting back on our first care package assembly, we are so beyond proud to have almost triple the amount of volunteers, double the amount of care packages created, and hundreds of donated items from local businesses and organizations.

Learning Curve:

We are able to buy different branded and higher quality items after feedback from the homeless community during our first rounds of care package distribution in May and June of 2022. We switched ramen noodles for saltine crackers as a filling carbohydrate, added roll-on deodorant, and replaced the brand of toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Each bag includes:

A pair of socks, 2 wet snacks (applesauce, pudding, or vienna sausage), a dry snack (trail mix, crackers, or granola bars, etc.),and a(n) essential care item(s) (deodorant, shampoo/conditioner/ wipes/ tissues, etc.)

Board member spotlight:

We welcome our newest board member, Kellen Wilson, with our 1st care package assembly of 2023. Along with a proactive attitude and the role of Chief Historian, Wilson has consistently expressed his yearning to help the homeless through The Giving. Wilson’s leadership excels when he is the first to direct help after instructions. Our Historian brought a great atmosphere making everyone smile and feel welcome during this event.
